Have you also wondered why you live?
We would like to answer this question in a short documentary, where a chain of conditions describes what wonderful properties our earth has to make life possible.
It is the most fundamental questions, we seek answers to. How is it possible, that we are alive? In this pilot project Director Christian Kroh and DoP Marcus Sies started a journey through Iceland to reveal some possible answers to this questions. Getting in between of those answers, where the production challenges the team faced on a daily base: Coldness, hard weather conditions and long remote distances. While chasing the weahter forecast and sun activity, it was possible for the small team to assemble enough material for this pilot documentary in only 7 days. The use of a remote control timelapse system made it possible to create the visual effect needed, to express the transience life itself is confronted with.
The movie concept to explain, entertain and emerge the audience, was constructed by several red threads that intertwined. The use of contrasts as a storytelling tool also played a big part in the concept development. Starting with molecules of water, birth givers of live, transporting living beings into all corners of the planet and ending into the planets magnetic sphere, that protects life from deadly cosmic threats. Another contrast is made, by presenting the miracle that live itself represents and the needed wonder we need, to stop the threats humanity is responsible for.
